Other Memories and moments Posted Friday, July 9, 2010 03:16 PM
I hope to see more on Memories soon... I know you all have some memories to share (maybe even some that the rest of us don't know).

OK Steve, my list of girls I thought were HOT is long and distinguished. For the benefit of my own protection, as most of them will be at the re-union, I'll not reveal the names at this time, and probably at no time in the future either. However, I will say the Class of RHS 1965 was not short on HOT young ladies. As for who I dated, I had a very memorable date with Beth LaTurner, as she sprayed me in the eyes with hair spray while stopped at the light by the A&W. Maybe I was suppose to pull into the A&W and refused...not likely. In retrospect, I'm certain it was not intentional on her part. The girl I dated for an extended length of time was Karen Bradley, great girl, wrong time. Chris Wiesenbach and I were seen with each other on a regular basis, however Chris and I were very much like brother and sister. It was not uncommon for her mother not to allow her to go somewhere, especially out of town, unless she was going with me. We traveled a great deal to rodeos in SE New Mexico and West Texas. An interesting story comes to mine. We left Colorado City on a Sunday afternoon and headed to Odessa. On the east edge of Odessa a highway patrolman pulled me and another guy over, who was driving a go fast 63 Chevy Impala SS, and the patrolman commenced to issue both of us tickets. Since I was from New Mexico, I had to follow him to the sheriffs office and pay the ticket that night. The judge on call that night was in church and I was told I had to wait until he arrived, even if it wasn't until the next morning. Well, the judge does show up and looking at my ticket he says "Doing a little drag racing I see". That was music to my ears, the ticket said "Contest of speed", and at that time I asked the judge if he wouldn't mind stepping out side. Outside I pointed to the vehicle I was driving and asked him how much drag racing did he think I may have been doing. I was in a 63 4 door Plymouth pulling two horses. The rear bumper was close to the ground. The judge shook his head and said "you may go". Joe |

RE: Other Memories and moments Posted Friday, July 9, 2010 05:59 PM I wont embarrass anyone by mentioning the young ladies names... but I will ask a question... Were high collars REALLY in fashion or were they covering an attack of a vacuum cleaner on the neck ? Guys who owned a "Dickie" ... why hide it, DISPLAY it. Clothes: I still own two pair of "Baggies" that I bought at The London Squire and a couple of Pendletons that I bought at at Ball & Ray. I'm thinking; wear them to the reunion. I recently had a Deja Vu moment. I took my family up to Lake Eldora Ski area after the end of the season. I spent my mis-spent youth up there and taught for awhile there. I left there in the early seventies, moving back to CO just 3+ years ago. It was foggy when we entered the parking lot. We parked and walked toward the lodge. As we got close to the lodge we could hear (but not see) music and laughter/partying. We stepped out of the fog and were at the base of the stairwell leading up to the lodge. A guy standing there said, "Sorry folks, the lodge is closed. We are having the end of year employee party". Oh well, I said we just want to look anyway... But, then I mentioned that I worked there in the 70s. He and two other people immediately invited us in... "You ARE employees. YOU are welcome". I found that refreshing. Heres the kicker: The party was a theme party, everyone was dressed in 70s attire, afros, mod colors, bell-bottoms, mini skirts, etc. I felt like I had never left... just like the day I left all over again. Maybe we should wear our '65 clothes. Look for me in blue cords, Pendleton, and Vans and driving a vintage VW. M a y b e ? A pair of S$$t kickers and jeans just wont get it. |

RE: Other Memories and moments Posted Friday, July 9, 2010 07:56 PM One of my most embarrassing moments came about because of Margaret Lackey. We were in a lot of classes together and she seemed to always sit in front of me. I spoke to Mrs. Marian Dennis in the hall one day and very respectfully said, "Good morning, Mrs. Dennis". Margaret was walking with me and she asked if I knew Mrs. Dennis. I popped off and said "you mean old hot lips?" She laughed and nothing else was said. A few days later, same scenario, and I speak to "Mrs. Dennis" and she says "Don't you mean HOT LIPS?" I damn near died. Margaret and Mrs. Dennis were good friends and both got a big laugh at my expense. The next day, I went outside the school and came in the 600 wing the back way to avoid contact with Mrs. Dennis. I still owe Margaret for that setback. |

Mary Luck Starling ******************* I just couldnt get too close. I felt uncomfortable , like I was alergic. I really think it was just the fact that I felt like one could not relax or go outside, or TOUCH it. You ladies had to continually "foof" it and spray it to keep it looking perfect. And then I ended up living in Dallas for 18 years... Big Hair Capitol of the World. But now I deal with whatever life hands down, gracefully. |

Big hair!! Well..though I didn’t think of it as “big hair” back in the day, when I look back from the current situation, I dated one of those big haired girls. We started dating as Jr’s. When I saw her Sr. pic, I was bowled over and was afraid every boy in the Sr. class, the “Insitute” amd wherever else would want to take my girl away from me. We fought like cats an dogs most of the time, but I was taken by her beauty. Dixie Lee Ramm’s Sr. pic “stacks” up with anyone’s I think. I’m still afraid someone is going to steal her. Turns out that before we started dating, she really was interested in my friend Charles Rives..not me.
Thru the years Chuck and Ronnie have stood by me in the 14, 221 break up’s Dixie and I went thru.
A few hundred other stories to be sure. Steve, I never kissed a girl in class. Way to go man!

RE: Other Memories and moments Posted Thursday, July 15, 2010 09:24 AM There are times I will log on and listen to the music Tommy Morton has graciously provided while I'm working on some other project. This is a wonderful site, a great place to reconnect with people from the past, an opportunity to get to know old friends at a different stage in life. I greatly appreciate all the work that has been put into its development and the folks who have done so. And now, let me share an old saying which applies to memories we share here. "The first liar doesn't have a chance." Joe |

RE: Other Memories and moments Posted Thursday, July 15, 2010 09:33 AM I have nothing but praise for Tommy's job of putting this great site together. It's friendly, efficient and extremely beneficial for re-connecting. I'm very proud of the team who has and cocntinues to work so hard to make the upcoming reunion successful. I'm sort of forced to spend a lot of time at home on the computer so it's been a good friend to me. Tommy Ray Williams |

RE: Other Memories and moments Posted Tuesday, July 20, 2010 07:34 PM AH! Herman's Hermits. s' lovely, this little ditty. Reminds me of summer days at Inlow Youth Camp. All those girls were lovely and we'd sing it to them to build up our confidence to try to ask them to be our 'steadys' for the week at camp. It worked for me... I'll never forget Mercy from Parkview, NM.... |
